Mr. Spring Fragrance does seem to be more acculturated at the end of the story, Curtis. Remember when he tries to pretend that he won't listen to the words of women? By the end of the story he's openly listening and paying attention. Sui Sin Far does seem to show that, as you suggest, both ways of falling in love are equally good.
